Konzil
Konzil is the German term for a formal ecclesiastical assembly of bishops and other church leaders, convened to discuss and decide on doctrinal, liturgical, or disciplinary matters. The word derives from Latin concilium, meaning assembly or council. In Western Christianity, including the Catholic Church, Konzile can be ecumenical (universal) or regional. They bring together bishops, abbots, theologians, and other church officials to settle questions of faith, church order, and practice. Decisions are typically binding on the participants’ jurisdictions and may require ratification by pope or other authorities.
