Konkurentideks

Konkurentideks is the translative plural form of the Estonian noun konkurent (competitor). It denotes a change of state or a designation of role, roughly translating to “as competitors” or “to become competitors.” It is used when describing entities that are becoming, or are presented as, competitors in a market, field, or arena.

Morphology: In Estonian, the form is built from the stem konkurent; the plural genitive is konkurentide, and the translative suffix -ks attaches to yield konkurentideks. The translative expresses a transition or label, for example after verbs such as muutuma (to become) or määrama (to designate).

Usage: Common in business analysis, market reports, sports analytics, and policy discussions. It appears in formal prose to discuss competition dynamics, e.g., “Ettevõte on muutunud konkurentideks turul” (The company has become a competitor in the market). In plain speech, speakers might use konkurendid instead, for the straightforward plural of “competitors.”
