Konfirmeras

Konfirmeras, also known as Confirmation, is a religious rite of passage and initiation ceremony practiced within several Christian denominations. The tradition is most commonly associated with Lutheranism, the Anglican Communion, and other mainline Protestant churches. The emphasis on this sacrament varies across different Christian traditions, but its core purpose remains unchanged.

The rite of Confirmation is typically performed by a bishop or high-ranking church official. It is conferred upon adolescents, usually in late adolescence or early adulthood, who have been baptized as infants. During the ceremony, the individual professes their faith publicly and requests spiritual guidance. Upon completion of this ceremony, the individual is then considered a full member of their respective Christian denomination.

Preparations for Confirmation often take place before the actual event under the guidance of ordained clergy and lay spiritual directors. This preparation, if present, entails intensive theological education, personal reflections, and acts of community service. The primary objective of this rite of passage is for the individual to demonstrate a deep appreciation for their faith and genuinely commit to its principles.

Some of the differences in emphasis of confirmation rituals are seen across distinct Christian traditions. While Catholics consider it as part of two parts i.e. Confirmation and Eucharist which are known as "sacred mysteries" or "sacraments," Scandinavian countries like Sweden and Denmark observe this ritual separately from the Eucharist (Lord's Supper) in terms of their template traditions and code of scripture.
