Komerc

Komerc is a term used in several Central and Southeast European languages to denote commerce and commercial activity. In South Slavic languages such as Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian, and Slovenian, komerc or related forms are common in everyday and official usage to refer to trade, business, and the commercial sector. The related adjectives komercijalni or komercijalno mean commercial or related to commerce, while the noun komercija refers to commerce.

Origin and form: The word is cognate with the English and French commerce and ultimately Latin commercium. It entered Slavic economic vocabulary through historical borrowing during the modernization of trade language.

Usage: In economics, law, and business, komerc is used as a general term for commercial activities. It appears in phrases such as komercijalna djelatnost (commercial activity) and komercijalni sektor (the commercial sector). In some contexts, Komerc has also appeared as a brand or organizational name reflecting its association with trade.
