Kolomoyskyi

Ihor Valeriyovych Kolomoyskyi (Ukrainian: Ігор Валерійович Коломойський; born 13 January 1963) is a Ukrainian-Israeli businessman and former politician. He is widely described as one of Ukraine’s most influential oligarchs and a co-founder of PrivatBank, the core of the Privat Group, a diversified holding with interests in banking, metals, energy, and media.

Kolomoyskyi built Privat Group with business partner Gennadi Bogolyubsky, expanding into several sectors including steel, petrochemicals, and media assets. PrivatBank was nationalized by the Ukrainian government in 2016 amid concerns about liquidity and losses, and the move led to ongoing legal disputes and restructuring of the group.

From March 2014 to February 2015 Kolomoyskyi served as governor of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast during the early phase of the Ukrainian crisis. In that period he exercised significant regional influence and supported the Ukrainian central government’s position in the conflict, leveraging his media assets and resources in the region.

Kolomoyskyi’s prominence as a business and political figure has been accompanied by controversy. His wealth and influence have been the subject of investigations, lawsuits, and extensive media scrutiny in Ukraine and abroad. He holds Ukrainian and Israeli citizenship and has maintained bases in multiple countries, reflecting a transnational aspect of his business activities.
