Koerstypes

Koerstypes is a term used in financial data and trading systems to describe the way a price or exchange rate quote is presented. While not a formal universal standard, koerstypes guide interpretation of quotes across currencies, instruments, and markets. The term appears in Dutch-language documentation and in data feeds that cover foreign exchange and related markets.

Common koerstypes include direct quotes and indirect quotes. A direct quote expresses the amount of domestic currency needed to buy one unit of a foreign currency, while an indirect quote expresses the amount of foreign currency needed to buy one unit of domestic currency. Other common categories cover settlement type and price position, such as spot versus forward rates and bid, ask, or mid prices.

In practice, koerstypes enable trading systems and analytics to interpret, compare, and aggregate quotes from multiple venues. They underpin pricing, risk management, and reporting processes.

There is no single universal standard for koerstypes; naming and composition vary by data provider and market, so explicit mapping is often required.
