Kobane
Kobane, also spelled Kobani, is a town located near the Turkish border in northern Syria, within the autonomous region of Rojava. It lies in the Aleppo Governorate, approximately 130 kilometres east of the city of Aleppo. The region is predominantly populated by Kurdish peoples, especially members of the Yazidi and Sunni Muslim communities, with a small Assyrian Christian presence. Historically the area has been a crossroads of empires, with evidence of habitation dating back to the Bronze Age; the town itself grew around a Roman road and later Ottoman administrative centers.
The town gained international attention during the Syrian civil war, particularly for the Siege of Kobane (2014–2015).
Today, Kobane remains in a tense security situation, with ongoing concerns over regional instability. Reconstruction efforts
