Koagulasjonstrinnet, also known as the coagulation cascade, is a series of events in the blood that ultimately leads to the formation of a blood clot. This process is crucial for preventing excessive bleeding and is tightly regulated to ensure that clotting occurs only when necessary. The koagulasjonstrinnet can be divided into three main phases: the extrinsic pathway, the intrinsic pathway, and the common pathway.

This pathway involves the activation of factor XII, which then activates factors XI and IX. Both pathways converge at the common pathway, which involves the activation of factors X, V, and II, leading to the formation of prothrombinase complex. This complex activates factor II (prothrombin) to thrombin, the enzyme responsible for converting fibrinogen to fibrin, the main component of a blood clot.
