Knochengewebe

Knochengewebe, also known as bone tissue, is a specialized connective tissue that forms the structural framework of the skeleton in vertebrates. It is a living, dynamic tissue that undergoes continuous remodeling throughout life. There are two main types of bone tissue: compact bone and spongy bone.

Compact bone, also called cortical bone, is dense and forms the outer layer of most bones. It provides strength, support, and protection. Spongy bone, also known as cancellous bone or trabecular bone, is less dense and has a porous, honeycomb-like structure. It is found in the interior of bones and is important for housing bone marrow, where blood cells are produced, and for providing a lightweight yet strong structure.

The fundamental structural unit of compact bone is the osteon, or Haversian system. Osteons are cylindrical structures composed of concentric layers of bone matrix, called lamellae, surrounding a central Haversian canal that contains blood vessels and nerves. Spongy bone consists of a network of interconnected bony struts and plates called trabeculae, which create spaces filled with red bone marrow.

Bone tissue is composed of cells and an extracellular matrix. The primary cells found in bone are osteocytes, which are mature bone cells embedded within the matrix. Osteoblasts are responsible for synthesizing and secreting the organic components of the bone matrix, while osteoclasts are involved in the resorption, or breakdown, of bone tissue. The extracellular matrix primarily consists of inorganic salts, mainly calcium phosphate, which give bone its hardness and rigidity, and organic components, such as collagen fibers, which provide flexibility and tensile strength.
