Kliimatüüpe refers to the classification of climates into distinct categories based on their shared characteristics. These classifications help scientists and geographers understand and predict global weather patterns, ecological systems, and the impact of climate change. The most widely used system is the Köppen climate classification, developed by Wladimir Köppen. It categorizes climates based on temperature and precipitation patterns, dividing the world into five main groups: tropical, dry, temperate, continental, and polar.

Within these main groups, further subdivisions exist, denoted by letters, that describe more specific conditions like seasonal rainfall or extreme temperatures. For instance, a tropical rainforest climate is characterized by high temperatures and rainfall year-round, while a Mediterranean climate, a subtype of temperate, experiences hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters.
