Kjernekraftanlegg, also known as nuclear power plants, are facilities designed to generate electricity through nuclear fission. This process involves splitting the nuclei of heavy atoms, typically uranium, which releases a significant amount of energy in the form of heat. This heat is then used to produce steam, which drives turbines connected to generators, producing electricity.

The core of a nuclear power plant is the reactor, where the controlled nuclear chain reaction takes place. Reactors are surrounded by robust containment structures designed to prevent the release of radioactive materials.
