Kithain

Kithain is a term used in certain fantasy role-playing games, most notably White Wolf Publishing's World of Darkness, to refer to the fae or changeling population. These beings are often depicted as mortals who have been stolen away to the faerie realm, known as the Dreaming, and have subsequently returned to the mortal world, or are born of those who have. They are characterized by their innate connection to dreams, imagination, and emotions, as well as their ability to wield supernatural powers often referred to as "cantrips."

The Kithain are not a monolithic group; they are divided into various "kiths," each with distinct characteristics, loyalties, and even physical attributes. These kiths often represent different facets of the fae nature or different social structures within their hidden communities. While they appear human, they are fundamentally alien to mortal perception, often struggling to reconcile their fae heritage with their human existence and experiences. They must navigate the hidden world of fae politics and avoid falling prey to the more sinister entities that reside in the Dreaming. Their existence is often a delicate balancing act between the mundane and the magical.
