Kirjoitusläpimeno, a Finnish term, translates to "write-through" in English and refers to a caching strategy employed in computer systems. In a write-through cache, data is written to both the cache and the main memory (or storage device) simultaneously. This ensures that the cache and main memory are always consistent, as any update is immediately reflected in both locations.

The primary advantage of write-through caching is its simplicity and the guarantee of data integrity. When a write operation occurs, the data is written to the cache and then immediately to the main memory. This means that if the system crashes or loses power, the most up-to-date data is always present in the main memory, preventing data loss.

However, this approach can lead to performance bottlenecks. Because each write operation requires access to both the cache and main memory, it can be slower than other caching methods, such as write-back caching. In write-back caching, data is only written to the cache initially, and the update to main memory is deferred until the cached data is no longer needed or the cache line is flushed. This can significantly improve write performance as memory access is avoided for every write.

Despite its potential performance drawbacks, write-through caching is often used in situations where data consistency and reliability are paramount, such as in certain database systems or critical storage applications. The trade-off is between immediate consistency and potentially faster write operations.
