Kirjakäsityö
Kirjakäsityö, often translated as bookbinding or bookcraft, encompasses the various traditional and contemporary techniques used to assemble pages into a book. This art form involves not only the physical construction of a book but also its aesthetic presentation. Historically, kirjakäsityö was essential for preserving written works and making them accessible. Early methods often involved sewing quires (folded sheets of paper) together and then attaching them to covers made of wood or thick leather.
Modern kirjakäsityö utilizes a wide range of materials, including paper, cardstock, fabric, leather, and various adhesives.
