Kietasis

Kietasis is a term in Lithuanian grammar describing the masculine singular definite form of the adjective kietas, meaning "hard" or "solid." In Lithuanian, adjectives can take definite forms to indicate that the noun they modify is specific or has been previously identified; kietasis is the form used with masculine singular nouns in nominative position.

Usage examples illustrate its function. For instance, kietasis akmuo means "the hard stone," and kietasis pastatas means "the solid building." The definite form signals a particular object rather than a general property. By contrast, the base form kietas is used in indefinite or general statements, such as akmuo yra kietas ("the stone is hard").

Kietasis is primarily a grammatical form and not a separate lexical entry with an independent meaning beyond the definite adjective form. It is most commonly encountered in descriptive, didactic, or stylistic contexts within Lithuanian prose and grammar discussions.
