Kiertotalouspy is a Finnish term that translates to "circular economy." It describes an economic model focused on minimizing waste and maximizing the use of resources. Instead of the traditional linear model of "take-make-dispose," a circular economy aims to keep products and materials in use for as long as possible, extracting their maximum value and then recovering and regenerating them at the end of their service life.

This economic system is built upon three core principles: designing out waste and pollution, keeping products and materials in use, and regenerating natural systems. Key strategies within the circular economy include product longevity, repair, reuse, refurbishment, remanufacturing, and recycling. The ultimate goal is to decouple economic growth from resource consumption and environmental degradation.

The concept is gaining traction globally as a more sustainable approach to production and consumption. It offers potential benefits such as reduced environmental impact, new business opportunities, job creation, and enhanced resource security. Implementing a circular economy requires collaboration across industries, governments, and consumers, involving changes in product design, business models, and consumer behavior.
