Kiertokanget

Kiertokanget, often translated as "crank levers" or "rocker arms," are fundamental components in reciprocating engine designs, particularly in internal combustion engines. Their primary function is to transmit the motion of the camshaft to the valves. The camshaft, driven by the engine's crankshaft, rotates and its eccentric lobes push against the kiertokanki. This action causes the kiertokanki to pivot, converting the rotational movement of the camshaft lobe into a linear motion that opens or closes the engine's intake and exhaust valves.

The design of a kiertokanki typically involves a lever arm with a fulcrum. One end of the lever is acted upon by the camshaft lobe, and the other end is in contact with a valve stem or a pushrod connected to a valve. The ratio of the lengths of the lever arms on either side of the fulcrum determines the multiplication of the camshaft's motion, affecting valve lift and duration.

Kiertokanget are crucial for the precise timing of the engine's breathing cycle. By accurately opening and closing the valves at the correct moments in relation to the piston's movement, they ensure efficient combustion and exhaust gas removal. They are typically made from durable materials such as steel or aluminum alloys to withstand the high stresses and temperatures encountered during engine operation. Variations in kiertokanki design, such as roller rockers, can reduce friction and improve performance and efficiency.
