Khabib Nurmagomedov (born September 20, 1988) is a Russian mixed martial artist who competed in the UFC's lightweight division. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time and retired with an undefeated professional record of 29-0.

Born in Dagestan, then part of the Soviet Union, Nurmagomedov trained in wrestling and sambo from a young age under the guidance of his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, a respected coach. He trained in the mountains and with local clubs, with an upbringing that emphasized discipline, grappling, and conditioning.

Nurmagomedov made his professional MMA debut in 2008 and joined the UFC in 2012. He won the lightweight title in 2018, defeating Al Iaquinta to become the undisputed champion. He defended the title against high-profile opponents, including Conor McGregor in 2018 and Dustin Poirier in 2019. After multiple title defenses, he announced his retirement in October 2020 following a victory over Justin Gaethje, stating he would not return to competition.

He is known for elite grappling, using sambo and wrestling to control opponents and neutralize their offense, along with relentless pressure and a versatile striking base. His undefeated record, longevity at the highest level, and high-profile rivalries contributed to his place in MMA history.

Off the cage, Nurmagomedov is a devout Muslim and has been involved in Dagestani sporting and charitable efforts. He is married and has children; after retirement, he has pursued coaching and mentorship within combat sports.
