Ketjuöljyjä

Ketjuöljyjä, or chain oils, are lubricants specifically designed for bicycle chains. Their primary function is to reduce friction between the moving parts of the chain, which consists of many small pins, rollers, and plates. By minimizing friction, chain oil helps to ensure smooth gear changes, increase the efficiency of power transfer from the pedals to the rear wheel, and extend the lifespan of the drivetrain components.

There are two main categories of chain oils: wet lubes and dry lubes. Wet lubes are formulated with a thicker, more persistent base and are ideal for use in wet or muddy conditions. They adhere well to the chain, providing excellent protection against water and grit, but can attract more dirt and dust in dry environments. Dry lubes, on the other hand, are typically thinner and contain solvents that evaporate after application, leaving behind a dry film. They are best suited for dry, dusty conditions as they are less likely to attract dirt.

Regular application of the appropriate chain oil is crucial for maintaining a bicycle's drivetrain. The frequency of application depends on riding conditions, the type of oil used, and the distance ridden. A clean chain that is properly lubricated will perform better, last longer, and provide a more enjoyable cycling experience. It is generally recommended to clean the chain before applying fresh lubricant to remove old, contaminated oil and debris.
