Keteleeria

Keteleeria is a genus of coniferous trees in the pine family, Pinaceae. There are currently three recognized species in the genus, all of which are native to East Asia. Keteleeria species are large trees, typically growing to heights of 30-50 meters, with a straight trunk and a dense, conical crown. The leaves are needle-like, arranged spirally around the branches, and are typically 5-15 cm long. The cones are cylindrical, 10-20 cm long, and mature to a reddish-brown color.

The three species are Keteleeria evelyniana, Keteleeria fortunei, and Keteleeria davidiana. Keteleeria evelyniana is found in southwestern China and northern Vietnam, while Keteleeria fortunei is native to southeastern China. Keteleeria davidiana is the most widespread species, occurring in central and southern China, as well as Taiwan.

Keteleeria species are typically found in mountainous regions, growing in mixed forests with other conifers and broadleaf trees. They prefer well-drained soils and a moderate to moist climate. The trees are relatively slow-growing but can live for several centuries.

Keteleeria species are not widely cultivated outside of their native range. However, they are sometimes used for ornamental purposes in botanical gardens and parks. The wood of Keteleeria is soft and light, and is used for construction, furniture, and paper pulp. The bark contains tannins, which are used in dyeing. Some Keteleeria species are also used in traditional Chinese medicine.
