Kergetel

Kergetel is a coastal city-state in the fictional region of Liria. Located on a sheltered harbor at the mouth of the Ker River, it has long served as a commercial crossroads for inland and seaborne trade. The city sustains a population of roughly 120,000 residents and operates a mayor-council government. Kergetel participates in the Western Littoral Federation, which coordinates defense, trade, and regional planning among member states.

Historically, Kergetel began as a fishing village in the early medieval period and evolved into a port town during medieval and early modern times. Its fortifications and shipyards anchored its growth, and the city industrialized in the 19th century before adopting a contemporary, service- and logistics-oriented economy.

Geographically, Kergetel sits in a temperate maritime climate zone, with rolling hills nearby and a deltaed river landscape feeding the harbor. The economy relies on shipping, fishing, shipbuilding, logistics, and light manufacturing, complemented by a growing tourism sector focused on the waterfront, parks, and historic streets.

The cultural landscape is diverse; the Kergetelic language is widely spoken alongside regional languages. The city hosts annual events such as the Lantern Festival and Market Week, reflecting its trading heritage. Education includes the Kergetel University of Technology and several research institutes.

Notable sites include the Old Fortress, Lantern Lighthouse, Market Square, and City Gardens. The port remains the city’s economic backbone, with rail and road links connecting Kergetel to neighboring communities.
