Kenttäemissioaseet

Kenttäemissioaseet, sometimes referred to as field emission guns (FEGs), are specialized electron sources used in a variety of scientific instruments. They are designed to produce a highly focused and stable beam of electrons through the phenomenon of field emission. In simple terms, a strong electric field is applied to a very sharp tip, typically made of a refractory metal like tungsten. This electric field causes electrons to "tunnel" out of the material, creating a dense and coherent electron beam.

The primary advantage of kenttäemissioaseet over older electron sources, such as thermionic emitters, is their ability to generate electrons at lower temperatures and with significantly higher brightness and coherence. This results in improved resolution and signal-to-noise ratio in applications where electron beams are used for imaging or analysis.
