Kemikaalivirastoon

Kemikaalivirastoon, often referred to as ECHA, is the European Chemicals Agency. Its primary role is to implement the European Union's chemicals legislation. ECHA works to ensure that the use of chemicals is safe for people and the environment. It manages the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) regulation, which is the main legislative framework for chemicals in the EU.

Under REACH, companies that manufacture or import chemicals into the EU are required to register them with ECHA. This registration involves providing information on the properties and uses of the chemicals, as well as their potential risks. ECHA then evaluates this information to identify any risks and, if necessary, proposes measures to manage them. These measures can include restrictions on the use of certain chemicals or the requirement for specific authorizations.

ECHA also plays a role in the Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) regulation, which ensures that the hazards of chemicals are clearly communicated to users through standardized labels and safety data sheets. Furthermore, the agency is responsible for implementing legislation on biocidal products and plant protection products. Its work contributes to a high level of protection for human health and the environment, while also promoting innovation and competitiveness within the EU chemical industry.
