Keelenditevahelise

Keelenditevahelise is an Estonian term used in linguistics to describe phenomena, relations, or processes that occur across language boundaries. It is often translated as interlingual or between-language in English. The term is formed from keel (language) in a genitive form and vaheline (between, inter) with the usual adjectival suffix, and is used to characterize interactions that involve more than one language.

In scholarly usage, keelenditevahelise is applied to descriptions of interlingual communication, cross-language influence, or translation practices that connect two or more languages. Examples include interlingual transfer observed in bilingual speech, interlingual errors in second language learning, and strategies for cross-language information retrieval. It distinguishes phenomena that operate across languages from intralingual or monolingual processes.

The concept is related to, but distinct from, intralingual or intercultural terms: interlingual concerns the interaction between languages, cross-linguistic refers to comparison across languages, interlanguage is the learner's developing state between L1 and L2, and cross-language transfer is the influence of the first language on second-language production.
