Kayoubi

Kayoubi refers to Tuesday in Japanese. The word is composed of two kanji characters: 火 (ka), meaning fire, and 曜日 (youbi), meaning day of the week. This naming convention for the days of the week is shared with other East Asian languages, such as Chinese and Korean, although the specific characters and meanings can vary.

The association of Tuesday with fire in Japanese culture can be traced back to ancient astrological and elemental systems. In many cultures, the days of the week are named after celestial bodies or gods, and in the East Asian context, the Five Elements theory (Wu Xing) plays a significant role. Fire is one of these elements.

As the second day of the traditional Japanese week, kayoubi follows getsuyoubi (Monday) and precedes suiyoubi (Wednesday). It is a standard workday and school day for most people in Japan. Like other days of the week, there are no widespread specific customs or traditions uniquely associated with kayoubi itself, beyond its place in the weekly schedule.
