Kavandar

Kavandar is a town and administrative center in the northern district of Eldara, a fictional country. It is situated in the Kav River valley, about 75 kilometers from the capital and along a major road corridor linking inland markets with the river port. The population is around 52,000 as of 2022. The town serves as a local hub for agriculture, trade, and light manufacturing.

The name Kavandar is derived from the Kav language, where kav means river and andar denotes place, reflecting its position beside the river crossing.

The site has been inhabited since at least the 12th century, developing as a strategic crossing on trading routes. It grew through the medieval period with a fortress complex and a weekly market. In the 19th and 20th centuries, Kavandar expanded with rail access and municipal governance, becoming the administrative center for the surrounding rural hinterland.

Geography and climate: Kavandar lies in a temperate valley with two pronounced seasons: a wet southwest monsoon and a dry winter. Average annual rainfall is around 680–800 mm, and average temperatures range from 17°C to 28°C.

Economy and infrastructure: The economy combines agriculture (citrus fruits, rice, vegetables) with textile milling and small metalwork workshops. The town is served by Kavandar railway station and a network of rural roads. Public services include a district hospital, several primary and secondary schools, and a public library.

Demographics and culture: The population is primarily of Eldaran ethnicity, with minority communities representing neighboring regions. Local languages include Eldaran and Kavandi, with Eldaran serving as the official language. Cultural life centers on the annual Kavandar Fair and the riverside park near the old fortress.
