Kaushambi

Kaushambi, also rendered as Kosambi in ancient sources, is a name used for more than one place in northern India. The most historically significant reference is to the ancient city of Kosambi, an early urban center mentioned in Buddhist and Jain literature. Located on the Yamuna River in present-day Uttar Pradesh, Kosambi was a major settlement in the early centuries BCE and a focal point in the regional networks of the Kosala kingdom. Archaeological remains at or near the site include fortifications, religious complexes, and material culture that provide insights into early urban life and trade in the Ganges-Yamuna plains.

In contemporary geography, Kaushambi denotes a residential and commercial locality in Ghaziabad district, Uttar Pradesh, within the National Capital Region.
