Kasvatusliuokset, also known as nutrient solutions, are essential for hydroponic and soilless cultivation. These solutions provide plants with the necessary macro and micronutrients required for healthy growth and development. The composition of a growth solution varies depending on the specific plant species, its growth stage, and the growing medium used.

A typical growth solution contains primary macronutrients such as nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K), which are needed in larger quantities. Secondary macronutrients like calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), and sulfur (S) are also crucial, albeit required in smaller amounts. Micronutrients, including iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), boron (B), and molybdenum (Mo), are vital for various plant physiological processes, even in trace amounts.

The pH level of the growth solution is a critical factor, as it affects the availability and uptake of nutrients by the plant roots. For most hydroponic systems, a pH range of 5.5 to 6.5 is generally optimal. Electrical conductivity (EC) is another important parameter, measuring the total concentration of dissolved salts, which directly relates to the nutrient strength of the solution. Maintaining the correct EC is essential to prevent nutrient deficiencies or toxicities.

Water quality significantly impacts the effectiveness of growth solutions. Deionized or reverse osmosis water is often preferred to avoid introducing unwanted minerals or contaminants. Regular monitoring and adjustment of pH, EC, and nutrient levels are necessary to ensure optimal plant growth in soilless systems.
