Kastide

Kastide is a town and commune in the fictional region of Valoria, located on the southern coast near the estuary of the Nore River. The municipality covers about 42 square kilometers and had an estimated population of 8,600 in 2022. It serves as a local center for agriculture, fishing, and light industry.

The settlement originated in the 12th century as a fortress town guarding the coast. It grew around Kastide Castle and received town rights in the late medieval period. In the modern era it joined a regional intercommunal structure to coordinate services with neighboring municipalities.

Kastide is governed by a mayor and a municipal council elected to six-year terms. It participates in the Valorian Coast intercommune association, which manages regional transport, planning, and economic development.

The surrounding landscape combines farmland with small wooded hills and an estuarine shoreline. The economy relies on dairy farming, berry crops, a small seafood processing plant, and tourism tied to the castle and coastal trails.

The centerpiece is Kastide Castle, a medieval fortress partly restored for public visits. The old harbor district hosts a weekly market and an annual coastal festival with traditional music, crafts, and local gastronomy.

The population is predominantly Valorian-speaking, with small communities speaking minority dialects. The town has a modest aging trend and ongoing efforts to preserve heritage while encouraging sustainable growth.
