Kastellion
Kastellion is a medieval castle located in the commune of Saint-Sauveur-en-Rue, in the department of Seine-Maritime, Normandy, France. The castle is situated on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Seine River, providing a strategic defensive position. Construction of Kastellion began in the 12th century, with the castle being built by the Norman lords of the region to protect their lands from potential invaders. The castle features a keep, or donjon, which is a tall, cylindrical tower that served as the main residence and stronghold of the castle's inhabitants. The keep is surrounded by a moat, which was filled with water to further deter attackers. The castle also includes a chapel, which was used for religious services and as a place of refuge during times of conflict. Over the centuries, Kastellion has undergone various renovations and modifications, but it remains a prominent example of Norman architecture and a significant historical site. Today, the castle is open to the public and offers visitors a glimpse into the medieval past of Normandy.
