Karbokationu, also known as carbocation, is a positively charged carbon-centered ion. Its general formula is R3C+ or within reaction mechanisms as R2CR+H, where the carbon has an electron deficiency. The carbon atom in a carbocation is typically sp2-hybridized and bears an empty p orbital, giving a planar, often trigonal arrangement around the cationic center.

Stability of karbokationu depends on several factors. Tertiary carbocations (formed from three alkyl substituents) are usually more stable than secondary or primary ones due to hyperconjugation and electronic donation from neighboring groups.
