Karasids

The Karasids were a prominent military and political dynasty that governed parts of the Aegean region during the late medieval period, particularly in the 14th and 15th centuries. Originating from the Karasid beylik, a semi-autonomous principality within the larger Ottoman Empire, they played a significant role in the power dynamics of the area during the decline of Byzantine authority and the expansion of Ottoman control.

The Karasid family established their rule in the region around the town of Aydın (modern-day Turkey), with their influence extending over parts of southwestern Anatolia and the Aegean islands. They initially served as local governors under the suzerainty of larger powers but gradually asserted greater independence. The Karasids were known for their military prowess, administrative organization, and their involvement in regional diplomacy and conflicts.
