Kaoliniteserpentine

Kaoliniteserpentine refers to a group of clay minerals that are mixtures or intergrowths of kaolinite and serpentine group minerals. These minerals are commonly found in altered ultramafic rocks and serpentinites. The presence of both kaolinite and serpentine in the same mineral assemblage indicates complex geological processes involving hydrothermal alteration and weathering. Serpentine minerals, such as antigorite, chrysotile, and lizardite, are formed by the hydration of olivine and pyroxene in ultramafic rocks. Kaolinite, a 1:1 layer silicate, typically forms from the weathering of feldspars and other aluminosilicate minerals under acidic conditions.

The formation of kaoliniteserpentine is often associated with low-grade metamorphic or hydrothermal environments where serpentinization has occurred, followed by later alteration or weathering.
