Kansakoulu
Kansakoulu translates to "people's school" in Finnish and refers to the elementary school system that operated in Finland from 1866 until 2016. The kansakoulu system was established to provide basic education to all Finnish children, regardless of their social standing. Prior to its introduction, education was largely the domain of the wealthy or was delivered through informal means. The law mandating the establishment of kansakoulu schools was enacted in 1861, and the system was gradually implemented over the following decades.
