Kalvopintojen

Kalvopintojen is a Finnish term used in biology and biophysics to denote the surfaces of biological membranes—the interfaces formed by lipid bilayers that enclose cells and organelles. Kalvopintojen is the genitive plural form of kalvopinta (membrane surface), and appears in phrases such as tutkimus kalvopintojen koostumuksesta (the study of membrane-surface composition) and toiminta kalvopintojen alueilla (behavior at membrane surfaces).

Biological membranes comprise lipids, proteins, and carbohydrates. The properties of kalvopintojen influence molecular diffusion, protein binding, membrane curvature, vesicle formation, and signaling at the interface between cell interior and the extracellular space.
