Kalrken
Kalrken is a rare silicate mineral described in the science fiction setting of the Kalr Sector. It is characterized by a vitreous luster, a green to teal color, and a hardness of 7 to 8 on the Mohs scale. The mineral forms crystalline aggregates with metallic inclusions of iron and nickel, giving it a distinctive refractive index of 1.68–1.75 and a density of about 4.2–4.6 g/cm3. Under ultraviolet light it emits a faint emerald fluorescence.
Kalrken occurs in high-temperature hydrothermal veins within ultramafic rocks, typically in subduction-zone analogs on basaltic planets.
Applications of kalrken include use in advanced ceramic composites, armor-grade hull plates for spacefaring vessels, and
History and etymology: The name kalrken derives from the Kalr Consortium, the earliest exploration group described
