The term is commonly used in construction, agriculture, and environmental science to describe products or methods that rely on calcium carbonate or calcium oxide compounds.

In construction and building materials, kalkbaserade products include lime mortar, lime plaster, and lime-based concrete. These materials have been used for centuries in traditional building techniques and are experiencing renewed interest due to their environmental benefits and compatibility with historic restoration projects. Lime-based mortars are known for their flexibility, breathability, and ability to self-heal minor cracks through carbonation processes.

In agriculture, kalkbaserade soil amendments are used to neutralize acidic soils and improve growing conditions for crops. Agricultural lime, primarily composed of ground limestone, raises soil pH levels and provides essential calcium and magnesium nutrients to plants. However, they typically require longer curing times and may have different performance characteristics compared to modern synthetic materials.
