Kalibratiecurven

Kalibratiecurven, also known as calibration curves or standard curves, are graphical representations used in analytical chemistry and other scientific fields to determine the concentration of an unknown analyte in a sample. A calibration curve is created by plotting the measured response of an analytical instrument against a series of samples with known concentrations of the analyte, called standards. The instrument's response, such as absorbance, peak area, or fluorescence intensity, is plotted on the y-axis, while the known concentrations of the standards are plotted on the x-axis.

Once the calibration curve is established, the instrument's response to an unknown sample can be measured. By locating this response on the y-axis of the calibration curve and projecting it to the curve itself, and then dropping a perpendicular line to the x-axis, the corresponding concentration of the analyte in the unknown sample can be determined. The relationship between the instrument's response and the analyte concentration is often linear, especially within a certain range. However, non-linear relationships can also occur, and appropriate mathematical models are used to fit the data. The accuracy of the concentration determination relies heavily on the quality of the standards, the precision of the measurements, and the appropriate fitting of the calibration curve. It is essential to use a sufficient number of standards to accurately define the curve and to ensure that the concentration of the unknown sample falls within the range of the standards used.
