Kalfjes

Kalfjes are young cattle. A male calf is called a bull calf and a female calf is called a heifer calf. Calves are typically born after a gestation period of about nine months. Newborn calves are able to stand and walk shortly after birth, often within an hour.

In their early stages, calves are entirely dependent on their mothers for nourishment, primarily through milk. This milk provides essential antibodies for immunity and nutrients for rapid growth. The weaning process, where calves transition from milk to solid feed, usually begins around two to three months of age, though this can vary by breed and farming practices.
