Travis Cordell Kalanick (born August 6, 1976) is an American entrepreneur best known as co-founder and former chief executive of Uber Technologies. Born in Los Angeles, he became involved in the tech industry as a serial entrepreneur before Uber, starting Scour, a peer-to-peer file-sharing company, in 1999, which faced lawsuits from the entertainment industry and eventually filed for bankruptcy. He and co-founder Michael Todd later founded Red Swoosh, a content-delivery network acquired by Akamai Technologies in 2007 for about $19 million.
