Kalabhairavaya

Kalabhairavaya is a Hindu deity revered in the southern Indian state of Kerala. He is considered a form of Bhairava, a manifestation of Lord Shiva as the destroyer of evil forces. The idol of Kalabhairavaya is worshipped in various temples across Kerala, particularly in the district of Thrissur.

The name "Kalabhairavaya" is derived from the word "kala," meaning time or clock, and "bhairava," indicating the ferocious aspect of Shiva. This deity is associated with the suppression of evil, the protection of the righteous, and the destruction of the cycle of birth and death. In mythology, Kalabhairavaya is said to roam the earth, destroying evil spirits and impurities.

Many temples in Kerala, especially those associated with the Bhakti movement, worship Kalabhairavaya as a primary deity. The idol is often depicted with four arms, holding various attributes such as a skull, a trident, and a severed head. Festivals and rituals in honor of Kalabhairavaya include the annual Pooram festival in Thrissur, during which devotees perform various customs and offerings. Devotees also engage in meditation, prayer, and offerings of flowers, fruits, and other talismans to appease the deity.
