Kajastused

Kajastused is a term in Estonian that encompasses several related meanings centered on the idea of reflecting or mirroring. The word comes from the verb kajastama, meaning to reflect, echo, or cast back, with kajastus forming the noun for reflection, echo, or portrayal. In general use, kajastused can refer to physical reflections as well as metaphorical representations.

In science and everyday observation, kajastus describes the reflection of light or sound. In optics, it refers to how waves strike a surface and return at an angle equal to the incident angle, producing a mirror-like image (specular reflection) or a diffuse reflection that scatters in many directions. In acoustics, it denotes echoes and reverberations. The term is also used more loosely to describe reflections one has about a scene, event, or experience.

In media and journalism, kajastus denotes the coverage or portrayal of events by the press and broadcasters. When media outlets report on a story, their kajastused include the content, framing, emphasis, and tone of the reporting.
