Kaivolämpöjärjestelmä

Kaivolämpöjärjestelmä, also known as geothermal heating or ground source heat pump system, is a renewable energy technology that utilizes the stable temperature of the earth to provide heating and cooling for buildings. The system consists of a ground loop, which is a network of pipes buried underground, and a heat pump.

The ground loop circulates a fluid, typically a mixture of water and antifreeze, through the pipes. In winter, the fluid absorbs heat from the earth, which remains at a relatively constant temperature year-round, even when the air temperature fluctuates. This warmed fluid is then pumped to the heat pump inside the building. The heat pump uses a refrigeration cycle to extract the heat from the fluid and transfer it to the building's heating system, such as radiators or underfloor heating.

In summer, the process can be reversed. The heat pump can absorb heat from the building and transfer it to the ground loop, effectively cooling the building. This stored heat can then be used for heating during colder months.

The ground loop can be installed vertically, with deep boreholes, or horizontally, in trenches. The efficiency of the system depends on factors such as the ground conditions, the size of the ground loop, and the performance of the heat pump.
