Kaitseväes
Kaitseväes is the Estonian Defence Forces, the unified armed forces of Estonia. Its primary mission is to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Estonia. The Kaitseväes is composed of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and the Defence League, a voluntary paramilitary organization. Service in the Kaitseväes is compulsory for male citizens aged 18-28, with a service period of 8 to 11 months. Conscientious objectors can opt for alternative civilian service. The Kaitseväes is structured for rapid mobilization and operates under the principle of total defence, involving all sectors of society. Estonia is a member of NATO and participates in various international peacekeeping and security operations. The Kaitseväes places a strong emphasis on training, interoperability with allied forces, and maintaining a modern, capable defense system. Its operational readiness is maintained through regular exercises and continuous development of its capabilities. The Defence League plays a significant role in national defence by supplementing the regular forces and providing support in various capacities.
