Kaitsegaasi

Kaitsegaasi, also known as shielding gas or protective gas, is a substance used in various industrial processes to prevent undesirable chemical reactions with the surrounding atmosphere. Its primary function is to displace reactive gases, such as oxygen and nitrogen, from a critical area, thereby safeguarding the material or process being worked on.

In welding, kaitsegaasi is essential for processes like gas metal arc welding (GMAW) and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW). It forms a protective envelope around the molten weld pool, preventing oxidation and contamination that would weaken the weld. Common shielding gases used in welding include argon, helium, carbon dioxide, and mixtures thereof, chosen based on the type of metal being welded and the desired weld properties.

Beyond welding, kaitsegaasi finds application in metal casting, where it prevents oxidation of molten metal during pouring. It is also employed in the semiconductor industry to create inert atmospheres for manufacturing sensitive electronic components. In food packaging, certain gases are used to extend shelf life by inhibiting spoilage reactions.
