Kaapelimodemin

Kaapelimodemi is the Swedish term for a cable modem. A cable modem is a piece of networking hardware that modulates and demodulates signals to provide broadband internet access over a coaxial cable network. It acts as a bridge between a home or office network and the internet service provider's (ISP) cable infrastructure.

Cable modems connect to the coaxial cable outlet in a building, which is typically the same type of cable used for cable television. On the other side, they usually connect to a router or directly to a computer via an Ethernet cable. This connection allows data to travel back and forth between the user's devices and the ISP's network, enabling internet access.

The technology behind cable modems is based on standards developed by Cable Television Laboratories (CableLabs), such as DOCSIS (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification). DOCSIS defines the communication protocols that allow for high-speed data transfer over the cable television infrastructure. Different versions of DOCSIS exist, with newer versions offering significantly higher speeds and improved efficiency.

Kaapelimodem is a crucial component for many internet users who subscribe to cable internet services. It translates the digital data from computers into a radio frequency (RF) signal that can travel over the coaxial cable and vice versa, making internet connectivity possible in homes and businesses.
