KRAStester

Krastester is not a standard term in English and may refer to different things depending on language and context. In Danish and Norwegian medical contexts, the construction KRAS-tester or "krastester" can appear as a shorthand for tests that analyze mutations in the KRAS gene. The KRAS gene encodes a protein involved in cell signaling, and its mutation status has clinical implications in certain cancers.

KRAS testing is primarily used to guide treatment decisions in colorectal cancer, and to a lesser extent in other solid tumors. Determining whether a tumor harbors KRAS mutations helps predict whether anti-EGFR therapies, such as cetuximab or panitumumab, are likely to be effective. Most testing detects common activating mutations in codons 12 and 13 of KRAS exon 2, but extended panels may cover additional KRAS regions and related genes (NRAS, HRAS) to improve predictive accuracy.

Laboratories perform KRAS testing using DNA-based methods, including polymerase chain reaction (PCR)–based assays and next-generation sequencing (NGS). Samples typically come from tumor tissue; circulating tumor DNA in blood can also be used in some settings. Results are reported as mutant or wild-type KRAS status and may include specific mutation details.

In other contexts, the term krastester is not standardized in English and can be confused with unrelated terms such as crash testing or other language-specific usages. When encountered, the intended meaning is usually clear from surrounding text or clinical context.
