K219
K219 is a designation that has been applied to several different entities, most notably a Soviet submarine and a class of warships. The most prominent K219 is the Project 667B Murena-class (Delta I class) Soviet ballistic missile submarine K-219. This submarine was involved in a catastrophic accident on October 6, 1986, in the Atlantic Ocean. A fire in a missile silo led to a series of explosions, causing the submarine to sink. Tragically, 15 of the 119 crew members were lost during the incident. The sinking of K-219 raised international concerns about nuclear proliferation and maritime safety due to the potential release of radioactive material.
