Külmhoonetes

Külmhoonetes refers to a method of food preservation using cold temperatures. This encompasses a range of techniques, most commonly refrigeration and freezing, which slow down the growth of microorganisms and enzymatic activity responsible for spoilage.

Refrigeration typically maintains temperatures between 0 and 4 degrees Celsius (32 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit). This is sufficient to inhibit the proliferation of most harmful bacteria, extending the shelf life of perishable items like dairy products, meats, and many fruits and vegetables.

Freezing, on the other hand, involves lowering the temperature to -18 degrees Celsius (0 degrees Fahrenheit) or below. At these temperatures, water within the food freezes, forming ice crystals. This significantly halts microbial activity and enzymatic processes, allowing for much longer-term storage. Freezing is widely used for preserving meats, fish, prepared meals, and certain produce.

The effectiveness of külmhoonetes depends on proper temperature control and the type of food being preserved. Maintaining consistent cold temperatures throughout the storage period is crucial. Packaging also plays a role in preventing freezer burn and contamination.
