Kõrvaeritis refers to the discharge from the ear canal. It can vary in color, consistency, and volume, and may be associated with other symptoms such as pain, itching, hearing loss, or a feeling of fullness in the ear. The presence of ear discharge can indicate an underlying medical condition affecting the ear.

Common causes of ear discharge include otitis externa, also known as swimmer's ear, which is an infection of the outer ear canal. This often results in a clear, watery, or pus-like discharge, accompanied by pain and itching. Another frequent cause is otitis media with perforation, where an infection of the middle ear leads to a tear in the eardrum, allowing pus or fluid to drain out. This discharge may be thick and yellowish.

Less common causes can include foreign bodies in the ear canal, trauma to the ear, or benign or malignant growths. Chronic ear infections can also lead to persistent discharge.

Diagnosis of the cause of ear discharge typically involves a physical examination of the ear using an otoscope. In some cases, a culture of the discharge may be taken to identify the specific type of bacteria or fungus causing an infection. Treatment depends on the underlying cause and may involve antibiotic or antifungal ear drops, oral medications, or, in some instances, surgical intervention. If ear discharge is present, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional for proper diagnosis and management.
